Biscuit Recipes
In this post you’ll find around 20 easy biscuit recipes, including sweet bakes, bars and squares that are just as great with a cuppa as traditional biscuits. And don’t miss my basic biscuit dough recipe so you can create your own flavours.

BISCUIT RECIPES: HOMEMADE IS BEST
Personally, I don’t think you can get a better biscuit than a homemade one. And I’m talking savoury and sweet. So, as I’ve already brought together a collection of my favourite Savoury Biscuits and Crackers, I thought I’d do the same for sweet biscuits.
With homemade biscuits (that’s cookies to US readers), you can control the amount of sugar while also avoiding nasties like palm oil and other ultra-processed ingredients. For me, the results taste head and shoulders above any you can buy. Eaten as an occasional sweet treat, you’ll want to slowly savour homemade biscuits, not mindlessly munch your way through an unsatisfying pack.
Among these easy biscuit recipes (and a basic dough to create your own) you’ll find classics like digestives and shortbread biscuits, plus homemade versions of popular brands like Hobnobs and Jam ‘n’ Creams. Along with traditional British-style crunchy biscuits I’ve included delicious bakes, bars and squares that work just as well as with a cuppa.

HOMEMADE DIGESTIVES & CHOCOLATE DIGESTIVES
I just had to start this round-up of my favourite biscuit recipes with the very first one I posted. It also happens to appear in my most popular recipes every single week. Crunchy, crumbly and with a satisfying wholemeal, oaty flavour, these are miles ahead of packet versions.
JAM & CREAM BISCUITS
Homemade version of another British favourite. Buttery biscuits sandwiched with vanilla buttercream and jam, finished with a sprinkle of sugar. Simple but delicious.
APRICOT, NUT & SEED OAT SLICE
With nutritious oats, fruity dried apricots plus chewy coconut, crunchy peanuts and toasted pumpkin seeds, these flapjack-like bars or squares are lighter and less sticky thanks to an egg and a little flour to lighten. Eat plain or add a chocolate drizzle.
ORANGE SHORTBREAD BISCUITS
Light, buttery and with a hint of citrus, these delightful shortbreads make a wonderful crunchy accompaniment to desserts like panna cotta and ice cream, not just a tea or coffee.
FRUIT & SEED OATCAKES
Looking for a lower sugar nibble? With healthy oats, currants and nutritious seeds, this lightly sweet version of Scottish oatcakes have less than half a teaspoon of added sugar per biscuit.
HOBNOB BISCUITS & CHOCOLATE HOBNOBS
With wholemeal flour and oats, this homemade version of a top British biscuit has a rustic feel. But with golden syrup and optional chocolate layer, hobnobs are a wonderful, sweet treat.
ZESTY OAT BISCUITS
A cousin of digestives, these buttery biscuits have the zesty flavours of orange, lemon and lime plus juicy sultanas and mixed dried peel. Those of a certain age may notice a similarity to Jaspers: a biscuit discontinued in the early 2000s.
CHOCOLATE HAZELNUT SHORTBREAD BISCUITS
A classic and always popular flavour combination in a light, buttery shortbread biscuit. Not just for dunking in a cuppa, Chocolate Hazelnut Shortbread Biscuits are sensational crumbled over ice cream!
GINGER OAT BISCUITS
Rustic oat and wholemeal biscuits with the warmly spicy flavour of both ground ginger and stem ginger. Neither hard like ginger nuts, or soft like a cookie, just perfect.
TRIPLE CHOCOLATE TIFFIN
Not strictly a biscuit itself, but this easy no-bake chocolate treat does contain lots of crushed biscuits. So easy, I just had to include tiffin in my favourite biscuit recipes. Includes dark, milk and white chocolate plus juicy raisins.
JAMMY SHORTBREAD SQUARES
So simple, but so good! A layer of shortbread topped with jam then oaty crumble mixture and baked until browned and crunchy, the jam bubbling up enticingly. Lovely eaten cold as a biscuit, but great warmed up as a dessert served with custard, cream, or ice cream.
FRUIT & SEED FLAPJACKS
Perfect for snacking as well as on-the-go breakfasts, in lunch boxes, out hiking or biking, these tasty, goodness-packed squares fit the bill whether you’re looking for a healthier sweet treat or an energising snack. The slow-release energy of oats is combined with apple and bananas, your choice of dried fruit and seeds, plus tahini or nut butter.
SHORTBREAD
An easy, no fuss recipe for classic sweet and buttery shortbread.
CHERRY ALMOND OAT SQUARES
A classic flavour pairing in an irresistibly delicious bake with chewy oats and a white chocolate topping. So easy to make with an all-in-one method similar to flapjacks, but with a lighter, non-sticky texture.
CHOCOLATE COCONUT CRUNCH
An easy chocolate and coconut crispy biscuit base with rich, melted chocolate topping. This retro treat can be put together in ten to fifteen minutes.
CARROT CAKE OAT BARS
All the spicy flavour and moist richness of carrot cake, made in a fraction of the time! Studded with sultanas, nuts and coconut, with the scent of orange and spice. A moreish chewy snack with a cup of tea or put in lunch boxes.
BASIC BISCUIT DOUGH
Looking to create your own biscuit flavours? Then here’s a base recipe for a simple dough where you add-in your your choice of dried fruit, nuts, seeds, spices, chocolate etc.
Finally, here’s a few biscuit recipes with the Christmas theme of fruit and spice. But I think they’re great all year round.
MINCEMEAT SHORTBREAD SQUARES WITH ALMOND CRUMBLE
Incredibly quick and easy, there’s no pastry to make and no cutting and rolling out. A substantial, buttery shortbread base is covered in rich mincemeat then topped with a spiced oaty and nutty crumble before baking.
MINCE PIE BISCOTTI
You won’t believe how easy it is to make these artisan-style light and crunchy biscuits, full of fruit, spice, and nuts.
MINCEMEAT BISCUITS
Sweet, fruity, and with a subtle spicy flavour, as well as mincemeat they include chopped walnuts or pecans for a nutty bite.
CHRISTMAS CHOCOLATE TIFFIN
Here the familiar crushed biscuit, fruit, and chocolate goodie is flavoured with mixed spice, cinnamon, orange zest, cherries, ginger, and dried peel. Topped with a layer of melted chocolate and edible decorations, these tiffin are an exceptional indulgent treat.
I hope you’ve found lots to tempt you among my round-up of favourite biscuit recipes.
