Feast Stone: Street Food Night
Feast Stone is the Staffordshire market town’s new street food event. I went along to the first one to see what it was all about & was mightily impressed.
Last night saw the first street food event in Stone, the market town which is home to Staffordshire’s biggest food festival. Many towns and cities hold a weeknight foodie event to liven up what can be a rather slow time for food businesses, so why not Stone?
But I was still surprised to see just how many turned up to Feast Stone. Despite the off and on rain showers, I found the High Street packed with punters enjoying food and drink from the big Feastrange of stalls.
Other half and I started the night off by sharing a portion of Little Seeds’ famous (and delicious) buttermilk chicken.
I first ate it at their Radford Street restaurant. I loved it there so couldn’t pass up a few piping hot morsels. The street food version was good too; the chicken moist and tasty beneath its crunchy coating
Next, we plumped for Sticky Beaks. We loved the sound of their slow roasted meats with fresh accompaniments, salad, pickles and sauces.
I choser lightly spiced Vietnamese Pork Banh Mi. Sticky Beaks were doing so well they’d run out of the baguettes which, due to Vietnam being a former French colony, is normally the bread in a banh mi. I got a flatbread instead, which was fine with me.
The country’s colonial past also explains what might seem an odd ingredient: paté. But I enjoyed the combination.
My other half went for spicy Korean Beef with kimchi and lots more goodies. As with my banh mi, it came with a nice little extra of chilli popcorn.
Getting a little carried away with all the food on offer, I may also have eaten a large smoked sausage…
Besides food, there were lots of opportunities for drinking too, whether you fancied a gin cocktail, a coffee or fresh juice. We went for good old beer from the Joule’s Brewery truck – Slumbering Monk for me and Green Monkey for him.
Success
Feast Stone is organized by Stone Food & Drink Festival, Staffordshire Sauce and the Stone Traders Group. Huge congratulations are due to them for making such a success of the first Feast Stone.
Put the date of the next one in your diary right now: Wednesday 26 June, 3-9 pm.
