Moorlands Eater

Thank you for visiting Moorlands Eater. This blog is all about sharing a love of good food. That means recipes to cook at home, recommended places to eat out, food events, and highlighting outstanding independent producers and suppliers.

ABOUT ME

I’m Lynne and I live in the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands on the western edge of the Peak District. I share my home with partner Ian and our cocker spaniel Larkin.

I’ve been cooking, enjoying eating out and all other aspects of food for over 35 years. But it was only a complete change of lifestyle, involving giving up my day job and moving away from a city, that gave me the opportunity to spend lots more time cooking, thinking and writing about food.

I started my food blog Moorlands Eater in 2017. Due to its increasing popularity, I was able to turn it into a small business in 2021. Moorlands Eater has enabled me to combine my love of food with my other major interests: reading, writing and photography. It took me a while to find my niche, but I’m loving it!

SHARING A LOVE OF GOOD FOOD

Moorlands Eater is all about sharing my love of good food (and drink). Using my knowledge, experience and enthusiasm, I aim to guide you to new food experiences I hope you’ll love. This includes recipes, new ones plus old favourites, places to eat out, and great food and drink producers and suppliers.

RECIPES

Recipes currently make up the bulk of my blog. I try to write them in a way that all home cooks, regardless of experience, will be able to follow and get good results. Some are less easy than others, but none are likely to be beyond the enthusiastic home cook.

I love to get feedback on my recipes. So please do leave a comment and star rating after the detailed recipe card you’ll find at the bottom of recipe posts. I’m also happy to answer any questions you may have before beginning a recipe.

You can follow me on Pinterest to get all my latest recipes as they’re published.

Please note: although I’m often asked for US cup measurements, especially for baking recipes, I don’t include them as there’s too much room for error. All my recipes are tested using digital scales with metric measurements and this is what you should use for the best results.

EATING OUT

The Eating Out section of my blog features restaurants, cafés, pubs, bars and takeaways I personally recommend. My emphasis is on independent food and drink, so I do not review national or international chains.

While I’d love to be able to write full reviews of all of them, timewise it’s just not possible. So, alongside full reviews, you’ll find round-up posts featuring a selection of recent venues I’ve enjoyed.

Venues occasionally invite me to dine free of charge (see Working with Moorlands Eater below). However, any subsequent review is always my honest opinion and will include a disclosure making it clear that I was not charged for the meal.

As Moorlands Eater is about sharing what’s good, I don’t write about food and drink I can’t recommend. I much prefer to concentrate on the positive.

HIGHLIGHTING OUTSTANDING PRODUCERS & SUPPLIERS

Of course, without farmers, millers, cheese makers, butchers, chocolatiers, vegetable growers etc., plus the people who supply them to us, they’d be no recipes or eating out. So, highlighting outstanding independent producers and suppliers has always been an important part of Moorlands Eater’s aims.

When I started this blog, I was able to devote whole posts to favourite producers and suppliers, especially local ones like Troutsdale Farm. But Moorlands Eater has grown beyond my expectations with more than half my current readers outside the UK.

So, these days, you’re more likely to find recommendations such as Dunwood Farm Butchery, Moorland Veg Box, and the The Port of Lancaster Smokehouse in my recipes as I cook with their great products.

You’ll now find my older producer and supplier recommendations in the Everything Else section of my blog. But, as with eating out, my latest recommended producers and suppliers feature prominently on my social media. So follow me on Facebook and Instagram to keep up to date.

EVERYTHING ELSE

The Everything Else section of Moorlands Eater currently includes all my posts that aren’t Recipes or Eating Out recommendations, although a few may encompass one or both of those categories too.

In Everything Else you can find out where to look for wild garlic, how to grow microgreens at home, or a complete beginner’s guide to making jam.

You can read a book review or my thoughts on used cookery books. If think you’d like to start writing about food then you can even read my food writing tips.

It’s there I’ll also post occasional pieces about food and drink festivals, one-off food events, street markets etc.
