Moorlands Eater

Thank you for visiting Moorlands Eater!

This blog is all about sharing a love of good food. That means recipes to cook at home, recommended places to eat out, food events, and highlighting outstanding independent producers and suppliers.

ABOUT ME

I’m Lynne and I live in the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands on the western edge of the Peak District. I share my home with my partner Ian and our cocker spaniel Larkin.

I’ve been cooking, enjoying eating out and all other aspects of food for almost 35 years.

But was only a complete change of lifestyle, involving giving up my day job and moving away from a city, that gave me the opportunity to spend lots more time cooking, thinking and writing about food.

I started my food blog Moorlands Eater in 2017 and it’s enabled me to combine my love of food with my other major interests: reading, writing and photography.

It took me a while to find my niche, but I’m loving it!

SHARING A LOVE OF GOOD FOOD

Moorlands Eater is an extension of what I try to do when I cook for people, eat out with friends, encourage them to visit places I’ve enjoyed or use a particular food or drink supplier.

That is the desire to share the best that’s available, using my knowledge, experience and love of food. In short, guiding them to new food experiences that I hope they’ll love.

RECIPES

Recipes currently make up the bulk of my blog.

I try to write my recipes in a way that all home cooks, regardless of experience, will be able to follow and get good results.

Some are less easy than others, but none are likely to be beyond the enthusiastic home cook.

I love to get feedback on my recipes. So please do leave a comment after the detailed recipe card you’ll find at the bottom of recipe posts.

EATING OUT

The Eating Out section of my blog is made up of full length reviews of restaurants, cafes, pubs, bars and takeaways. I occasionally write round-up posts of my eating out over a month or two.

My emphasis is on independent food and drink, so I do not review national or international chains.

Venues occasionally invite me to dine free of charge. However, any subsequent review is always my honest opinion and will include a discloure making it clear that I was not charged for the meal.

As Moorlands Eater is about sharing what’s good, I don’t write about food and drink I can’t recommend. I much prefer to concentrate on the positive!

FOOD & DRINK EVENTS

On Moorlands Eater you’ll find occasional articles about food and drink festivals, opening nights, street markets, one-off food events etc. in my Events category.

PRODUCERS & SUPPLIERS

You could say that my recommended Producers & Suppliers category is the most important.

After all, there’s no recipes, eating out or food and drink events without the farmers, cheese makers, chocolatiers, brewers, distillers plus other makers and suppliers of good things.

I must admit though, I haven’t written lots of full posts on my favourite producers and suppliers. However you will find them mentioned throughout my blog as I use their great products in recipes and highlight them in my round-up posts.

EVERYTHING ELSE

My final category of post is a bit of a catch-all for writing that doesn’t sit neatly elswhere.

In Everything Else you might find out about where to look for wild garlic, how to sprout seeds, read a book review or my thoughts on used cookery books and food writing itself.
